JV TEAM UPDATES & NEWS

August 25, 2019 - Coach Keely

This is my fourth year coaching at Jefferson. Prior to this, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior where I played volleyball and earned a degree in Elementary Education. I am currently an elementary teacher at a small private school in Burnsville. My husband, Matt, and I have a 1 year old chocolate lab puppy named Norman and we are expecting our first child in February! I am looking forward to another great season with my team.

The JV team finished 3-4 in our first week of competition! We started off with a tough loss to Eagan on Tuesday night. On Thursday, we were at Rosemount, where we played hard but lost in 3. Saturday was our first tournament at Eden Prairie. We finished 3-2! Overall, it was a great first week! We will continue to work hard and get better throughout the season. It has already been fun to see the girls improve their skills and become closer as a team! I look forward to a great season with this group.

September 15, 2019 - Coach Keely

This week proved to be some tough competition with the Jags playing Eden Prairie and Minnetonka. We competed hard, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win in either match. On Saturday, we were back at it, playing at the Burnsville JV tournament. The first four matches in pool play were played against Champlain (split), White Bear Lake (Win), Mounds View (Split), and Eastview (Win). We finished second in our pool of six teams, which allowed us to make it to the tournament bracket. We played the number one seed, Waconia, in the first round and lost a close match! Overall, it was a great day of volleyball! The girls played hard and improved a lot throughout the week!

September 22, 2019 - Coach Keely

This week was filled with excitement as the Jags battled in two close matches! On Monday, the JV team beat Kasson in a close 25-23, 26-24 point victory! On Thursday, we faced SLP, winning in 3 (22-25, 25-14, 15-9)! It was a great week of volleyball! We look forward to working hard in the next few weeks and recovering from some injuries and illnesses!

September 29, 2019 - Coach Keely

This week the JV team won both of their matches! Tuesday night we were at Concordia Academy, where we won both sets 25-11! On Thursday we faced Kennedy, beating them 25-12 and 25-5! It was a great week- the girls have been working have and improving every day! It has been a lot of fun to see the things we focus on in practice get transferred into their game play. We look forward to some competitive matches this coming week!

October 7, 2019 - Coach Keely

It was a tough week for the JV team as we faced two very competitive teams: New Prague and Chaska. On Tuesday, we lost in a hard fought match against NP (17-25, 16-25) and Thursday night against Chaska (14-25, 21-25). We continue to battle through some injuries which has forced us to change the lineup in the last few matches. We hope for players to recover quickly; however, they have continued to stay positive and support the team! The injuries have provided us with a great opportunity for other players to step up and we have had some younger players play with us. We look forward to playing Chanhassen on Thursday and the tourney on Saturday!

October 13, 2019 - Coach Keely

After a tough loss on Thursday to Chanhassen (25-21, 17-25, 15-17) the Jags stepped up to take first place at the Jefferson tourney! We started the day off a bit slow, losing to Eastview in three (25-20, 23-25, 10-15) and then beat New Ulm in three (25-16, 24-26, 15-3) to conclude pool play. Luckily, there was a three way tie in our pool, giving us the opportunity to take first by points! As we began the afternoon of bracket play, we faced Park (25-15, 25-23) and Mounds View (26-24, 25-21) winning both matches by only a few points! It was an exciting day full of competition! It was a lot of fun having some new teammates join us this week! I’m proud of the way all the girls were able to pull together as a team! We look forward to finishing strong this week with our last two matches of the season!

October 21, 2019 - Coach Keely

The JV team wrapped up their final games of the season this week finishing 1-1. Tuesday night was a win against Cooper beating them with scores of 25-9 and 25-6! Thursday proved to be a tougher match, losing in three to Lakeville North (25-23, 20-25, 9-15). Although the outcome was not what we wanted, the girls played a great game and showed many improvements from the beginning of the season! I’m very proud of this team and the way they worked hard all season! They battled through some injuries and other challenges, but ultimately came together as a team to compete, build friendships, and become better volleyball players!

Wednesday night after our final practice of the season, Keely got a big surprise! A baby shower filled with food, games, and lots of laughs! A huge thank you to all the parents and players who threw the surprise shower! It was so kind and unexpected! What a fun way to finish our season! Thank you!!!
